This double storey extension project saw the landmark use of ‘cross-laminated timber’ (CLT) construction in the context of a traditional London Victorian terrace property. CLT ensured speedy erection of the sub-structure on site, which was wrapped with environmentally friendly ‘wood fibre board’ insulation and external timber cladding.
The structure of the extension was purposefully left visible and celebrated, with lights and fixtures carefully recessed, and subordinate to the CLT.
James acting as Project Architect oversaw the project through planning, tender and construction. Technical design was a collaborative process with specialist engineers and fabricators to create the open ‘internal corner’, which links the extension via corner sliding glazed doors to the patio and garden beyond.
