Penshurst Road saw the complete refurbishment and extension of a traditional Victorian Terrace property in Hackney. Pre-existing basement level was modestly excavated so as to create a thermally insulated floor slab, whilst a new in-fill/‘wrap around’ extension benefits from minimal framed glazed doors and roof structure.

The external walls of the extension were lovingly tiled/clad with individual cuts of natural blue slate from Wales, forming a visual link with the dormer roof extension above.

As the project architect for Gresford Architects, James oversaw design development, tender and construction.
